Hi,
Newbie
2003 basic AWD Outlander.
I'm gonna put a Kenwood 925 deck in. I'm thinking about mounting the amps in the pastic tray over the spare. I figure I can get a wiring harness for where the deck is attached cheap. I have a few questions:

Is my amp location plan any good? Any other suggestions?

Are the 2 screws under the lowest section of the dash the beginning of the puzzle to get the radio out?

Its a 4 speaker AM/FM/CD...is there an amp anywhere (that I'll need to bypass) or are the speakers powered from the deck?

Thanks,
Bob

Here's how I like to dissasemble the dash:

1. I like to pull out the panel where the power outlet is located first. Put the gear shifter in drive for extra space.
2. Open the power outlet cap and stick your thumb in there. Pull on the entire lower panel. It should pop out pretty easily. You can set it aside.
3. Pull off all 3 heater control knobs. The pull straight out.
4. There are 2 screws behind 2 of the knobs. Remove them. Set them aside.
5. Now you are going to pull out the centre dash trim piece. It is attached with several plastic clips. I usually start from the bottom and pop them out slowly.
6. The radio is now accessible. There are 4 screws holding the radio mounting brackets to the dash. Remove all 4 screws and pull the radio out.

Mitsubishi radios are grounded through the antenna. Because of this, you will have to run a ground wire from the chassis to the aftermarket radio's black wire.

I noticed that the mitsubishi radios were grounded with the antenna. But once I plugged the antenna in I did have to ground it at all and it worked just like the stock radio did with the antenna as the ground.
