i have a 2000 eclipse rs that i am having troubles with. i just changed the sparkplugs the other day and now the car will not idle. when i'm driving around the car runs just fine. the problem happens when i come to a stop and the tach zeros out and the car dies. if you have any troubleshooting ideas it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

what is your R.P.M. settings at this time?? adjust your timing / air flow, maybe this will help.( setting should be 800 AND or 1000 X R.P.M.)

for a little while now i have noticed that the idle rpm was at 500 rpm. i thought that maybe it was a timing problem so i had the timing belt changed also because of high mileage. that didn't seem to fix the problem. this is what was happening. when i would come to a stop the needle would drop down to 500 rpm and them drop down to approx. 400 rpm then bounce back up to approx. 700 rpm. as i posted before now it just drops straight to zero. thanks for the help.

I had the same problem. My idle would go down to about 400 rpm and the car would shut off. I just adjusted my idle and set it a little higher and now when I drive the car for a while and the temp gets a little hot under the hood, my idle bounces between 1500 and 500 for a while untill the engine cools down a little. I have no idea what the problem is but one of my frends said that I might have a hole in my intake manifold but I dont know how true this is.

Sounds like the IAC. If you fix the set screw and it still hunts like that then it's the IAC motor.

like I said do you have an aftermarket intake? if so what brand? check the throttle body flange and make sure its not cracked because they do very easily in the 4G64 of the 3Gs. which is where when I said VAC leak comes in.

My old 2000 GS did that and I had a ebay brand intake I found out that the intake caused the manifold to crack at the TB flange so I needed to buy a new manifold. and the new one broke in the same place and had to replace it again. Cheap intakes will kill you

Id say go back to the basics check plugs make sure they are still tight. did you change wires? if not you may have damaged one or many of the spark plug wire during un-install or the install.

either this or a vacuum leak.

or if you have an aftermarket intake installed, that could be causing it. reset your ECU by disconnecting the battery for about 15 mins. reconnect the battery, start the car, and let it idle for about 10 mins. see if that works.
