hey, i got drum brakes on the back of my 3g, whenever the car's cold, the brakes squeal like hell. the guy i bought the car from said the shoes only had about 10k miles on them, but i dunno weather to believe him or not. anybody know what the sqeekin could be, and if its not the brake shoes, how to fix it. i took the drums apart and looked for fluids and stuff inside, but i didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I have a set of NHT front calipers with Hawk pads and they sqeak almost all the time, even when it's warm. I don't know why but you're not alone. Could be the rotors.

Could be the type of pads you are using. There are some out there that squeal when applied. I forget which ones. My mom had a buick that did the same thing.

Check the pads and see if the squeaker is hitting the rotor. The squeaker is a little piece of metal that starts rubbing the rotors to let you know the pads need changed. I don't know if the drum brakes have squeakers or not though...

Often times people don't use anti-squeel on their brakes, on new pads the noises are casued by fast vibrations between pad and caliper, even with the shim on the pads they still have a tendancy to squeel. Also it's recomended to do 3 30-0 fairly quick stops to help "break the pads in" and reduce noise.

As for the Drums........maybe the shoes are on wrong or mis-aligned????

oh, when i test drove the car, i let my dad drive it a little too, he did a few 60-0's down my street to test the abs... the abs works fine by the way. anyway, i was showin my dad the noise it made and he was listening to it outside the car and he said it didn't sound like it was comin from the brakes... could anything else in the rear end of a fwd eclipse be squeelin like that only when you hit the brakes???

A rubber spacer in the springs? If there is one. Maybe a shock is squeaking. OR better yet maybe the suspension joints are squeaking cause the rubber is worn or dried out. That is about all I can think of that is back there. Good Luck

I guess I would put it up on jack stands and spin the wheels by hand & see if you can hear the noise at all....
