I just bought a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS from a junkyard for $350. Needs a new transmission, and the engine could use a rebuild. It's a 1.8L, but, i want to put a 2.0 Turbo in (and i already know i'm gonna need a new tranny to support the more powerful engine...or so i've been told). I was wondering - Will a 2.0 Turbo fit without any major modifications? I don't know that much about cars, but i'm learning. and i really don't have loads of money to throw around (but that's what a savings account is for, right? lol) And i just bought a tranny from eBay, a manual, but, is there a way to have it tested to be sure it works before i go through putting it in, buying the clutch kit....etc? and also, i will include a couple of pictures, notice in them, the dent on the driver's side rear panel. can that be repaired or will i have to replace the whole panel? and can it be done? :\
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanx
Ricky

ok, well, the pic isn't as clear as i thought it was....but maybe someone can tell?

Panel could be pulled out... but it wont be smooth. You could break out the bondo. but that is a challenge to get right for a first timer.

Is the tranny from a turbo? Just be careful with an engine if you find and old one. Some were great... some had major problems...

Hope it works for ya.

Out of curiosity -- How much did you get the tranny for?

Have you found an engine? How much you think that will run you?

While the tranny is out, i'd go ahead and replace the clutch, pressure plate, etc..

Awfully ambitious for a first project don't you think? You are basically going to have to buy 2/3 of a turbo car to pull this off. Good luck to you though!

Not that way I would put it but I agree. Why are you making life hard on yourself? I know you are learning but your basically throwing yourself into the deep blue sea here. You can buy a 1g turbo in excellent condition for $1500 if you jus wait and keep your eyes open. You are going to spend a LOT of moeny, time, and frustration on this project here, especially since you dont know what you are doing. Then after a year or so you will have an ok running, not able to pass smog beater.
