i bought 2 12" Alpine 1242 subwoofers
i've been looking at amplifiers

what would be best for a setup such as
amp
2 subwoofers
2 front speakers 240 watts
2 rear speakers dont know how many watts didnt change them yet

head unit currently pioneer deh1100..i dont even think its compatible with an amp
trying to find a deal on an alpine

but the real question if i havent confused you yet is
what kind of amplifier should i get
2 channel
4 channel
or mono

i want to hook up the front rear and subs to the amp if possible
thanks

For the speakers, you'll want a good 4 channel amp. You can run them off a head unit but it wont sound as good. For the subs, MONO is definitely the way to go. As for a brand, I'll only reccommend one and thats JL Audio. Absolute best amplifiers hands down, but be warned, they're expensive. I dont know much about your subs but if theyre low power, a jl 250/1 would beat them to death. It doesnt seem like much, but believe me, people were shocked when i told them a little 250/1 was makin all that noise. Even more breathtaking with the 500/1, which was so loud i sold everything (my car was shakin apart). Peace.

Go with JL and get a class D and bridge it on 2 ohms that **** hits hard!

actually....JL amps (mono class D) will play the set watts no matter what you wire it...4 ohms hits just as hard as 2 ohms when it comes to the JLs. i had the 250/1 wired at 2 ohms and the amp kept overheating and the low ohm light would flash every time the bass hit, bad times. rewired it to 4 ohms and it kept cool no matter what, was just as loud as 2. wire down to 2 ohms at your own risk.

"absolute best amplifiers hands down"
nevermind that. This guy has apparently never heard of Audison, Genesis, Brax, Tru, USamps, etc...
JL is ok, may be the best compared to pioneer sony alpine - typical Best Buy crap.
If you can look into 5 channel amps. Some are made to put out a clean 75wX4 plus 150wX1 with seperate 24db x-over for the sub channel. If you are tight for space a 5 channel amp is a good choice.

Man, I bought my first system when I was 16. It was all cheap MTX, I didnt have any money and it wasnt that tight of a system. You're right to call all of those brands best buy crap, because they are. I went thru almost every brand of amp and nothin worked, none could handle being bridged in texas heat. Finally I went to JL and it totally saved my system. Im 21 now and I had never even seen Audison until last year at a Tweeter store (tweeter was about as high end as it got where I was). I have no doubt that the brands you listed kick ass but price and being able to find them in stores also helps. I'm sure if Tweeter had started carryin Audison earlier I wouldve checked them out. Oh well, I dont even have a system anymore. But if i decide to buy another one ill keep those brands in mind.

man, I wasnt trying to bust your balls, just making general observational comments. One thing I left out however is... lets say you spend $900 on Focal Utopia comps and then power them with a $1600 Genesis 2 channel amp... without deadening your vehicle or by using the wrong enclosure you may as well listen to the best buy crap. By the way, I own a JL 300/2 and its not a bad amp at all. But for the price new I should have went with Audison. Oh well
