Hey everyone,
I had a quick question for anyone who has changed their own spark plugs on their lancer. I have a 2003 OZ Lancer. Yesterday I decided to do a basic tuneup because I have like 75,000 miles and haven't done much except oil changes, tires, tire rotations, and basic filters.

I put on new belts, oil change, new air filter, new pcv valve...then I saved plugs for last because they seem like a fairly easy change. Well I went to advance autoparts and asked for stock plugs NGKs since my car has 75k and is still running great. They gave me what the computer said the stock plugs were. I got tools ready and then before I removed the old plugs I decided to check something because something didn't look right. The new NGK plugs require a 13/16" spark plug socket. Well no 13/16" socket fits into the hole and "tube" to get down to the spark plug hole in the block. I had a 13/16" deep well 1/2" drive so it was pretty beefy. So I ran to the store and bought an actual 13/16" 3/8 drive plug socket..which is pretty low profile. It's not as thick or large in diameter but it still won't fit down into the tube to reach the plug. I think the old plugs are smaller than 13/16"? Did advance autoparts give me the wrong plugs? Is there a different plug socket? Am I just an idiot and missed something? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks! James

Is it possible I got Evo plugs instead of standard lancer plugs? Are the evo plugs 13/16"?

I don't have the answer, but scroll up on the topic page of the forum and try posting again in the "tech help" page, maybe you'll have better luck there.

are you saying you can reach the plug or that the plug is a different size cause i have hadto remove the Valve cover to get to the plugs on mine.

I just found the same problem with mine... The 13/16 is definitely too big... yet my new plugs are 13/16 as well???

I looked down the hole and it looks like a smaller diameter plug (at least the "nut" part)
