Are you sure about your montero sport details? Engine size is wrong therefore can't really give you appropriate specs or advice.

Actually, the 97-98 Montero Sports had an ES model that came with a 2.4l engine mated with a 5 speed manual gearbox. As far as the location of the PCV valve- its been quite some time since i've had a look at one of those engines in the Sport, but i'd imagine that it's be located around the valve cover area...?? Good Luck!

Wow, they came with a 2.4L engine? Didn't know that. Every sport owner I've met (dozens) has always had a 3.5 or 3.0 v6. I wonder if most of the 2.4 owners avoid going off road or simply don't have that many problems?

all 2.4l are the same for us. The PCV valve is on top of engine connected to a port by your oil cap. Now in between the hose and that port is the PCV valve, just pull off hose and unscrew the valve. Now you can check its operation by taking it off with hose on and engine running and you should feel a vacuum and here or feel the component inside shut. If not replace it.

Thanks for the replies, I have checked car tonight and near to the oil filler cap there is a 3/8th inside diameter hose going from the rocker cover to the intake hose from the air filter at a convulated part of the intake near the resonator box, this has no valve in it.
At the rear of the rocker cover there is a valve in a grommet in the rocker cover with "8AK" on it with a 3/8th inside diameter hose going to the rear of the inlet manifold, would this be the PCV Valve ? .... Bob.
