I'm not sure about the newer ones, but I know that the 94 to 98s all came in automatic, but they do make an aftermarket 5 speed transmission for them. Try looking on kbb.com just act like you're getting a price quote on the car and it sould tell you if they came in standard.

My friend claims his '01 Galant has a GM motor in it....he has the 2.4l 4 cylinder. The topic came up because he says his car doesn't require Mitsu/chrysler ATF, it uses Dexron...........doesn't sound right to me.

Any truth to any of this?

It is a Mitsu motor and the tranny is required to use Mitsu ATF but some of my forum members have used Sythetic and where happy with the results.

Also the Motor code for the 8G I4 is 4G64 so it is a mitsu motor straight from the Normal IL plant.

The only come in Automatic as a standard option. No manual option avaiable. Also the 7G Galant 94-98 did come in a manual but they are very rare. You can swap in a tranny from a 2g or 1G Eclipse into the 7G.

Thats what I thought. I'd never heard of Mitsubishi and GM doing business like that.

The Chysler Sebring also used the 4G64 and 6G72 motors so that might be where the confusion is....
