How you guys doin? Now my best friend just bought an 02 lancer. Now I am a volkswagen guy, a common face on VWVortex, but I dont kno crap about DSM. Any help on some common problems these cars seem to have would be greatly appreciated. She is not to car savvy, so I wanna make sure she didn't make an unintelligent purchase.

BTW, I searched, only got one thread, that had nothing to do with anykind of common problems. TIA.

The reliability ratings on the 2002 Lancer were all "5 out of 5".

02 Lancer are very nice cars that get good fuel economy and as long as you dont race it around all the time then you will be good i have a 05 lancer ES with a few mods done to it and plenty more to come but i am mechanically inclined to say so i like work on cars but a Lancer is a great purchase and wont be disappointed with it

A side note i like VW too had a 85 Golf GTI that i played with and amazing engineering just different from other imports but really enjoyed working on them

i drive an 02 ES....I cant think of any problems...there was a recall I had to take care of a couple years ago, but beyond that, the car is solid.

Hey guys. Since your talking about problems I thought Id ask a few questions. Im new to the Lancer scene. Im looking at a car 02 OZ Rally that has a couple issues. Can anybody tell me if I should be concerned about any of them. First, the SRS light is on. Second, the seat belts are locked...wont go in and wont come out??. Finally the car AC doesnt blow cold. The car has 66000 miles. Other than that the cars seems very nice. Any comments or suggestions? What would you pay for this car?

Thanks for your help.

Ill check in my owners manual and see what the SRS light means....isnt that for the airbags? I have no idea why the seatbelts are locked, but the AC sounds like it needs freon. The SRS light sounds a little odd tho, Ive never seen that light come on in my car (40,000 miles so far). Maybe it was in a wreck and got all fixed up. If thats the case, I wouldnt buy it. I bought a Hyundai Scoupe (i had never heard of it) and after about 2 months, while i was driving, the rear axle broke. Carfax is only good if the people report the accident. Damn hyundai pos.

Thanks. I now suspect something was wrong too. I passed on the deal. It was a nice car though. Ive never owned a Mitsubishi but would consider one now.
