Is it possible to make a 1st gen automatic into a standard? Or is it just gonna be one huge pain in the ass?

Well... think about it. You would need a clutch, tranny, master cyl, manual trans pedal setup. I think its possible to be done... there might be a little work involved.. but it would be done

You also need a slave cylinder, also if the car is awd you'd need a rear too.

Even after all that work it may not come out very good. A friend of mine's dad, who is a mechanic, did his car like that for him.. (not a mitsu).. and it worked, but it wasn't on any sort of performance level. You'd be better off just buying a standard trans car... unless of course you're rich and just want to toy with it..
