If they do happen to succeed, the DOD will put a hush order on it, patent it, and it will be a military only application. Think of the mayhem if things could suddenly become invisible. I don't think it'll happen in my lifetime though, they only mentioned " imagining", not "based on our research", or anything more substantial than a theory.

I've been able to make my self invisible for years simply by drinking enough...

When they speak of invisibility they're not meaning that a person or thing will be "totally" invisible. It will be more like the predator movie...still pretty cool!!

ORIGINAL: mysterio2099 And sure, they haven't did it, but they seem to have a pretty good idea of how they're going to do it. I think they'll have it in your life time.. you're not THAT old are you? I am 27, so I guess I'm a little older than some, but Santa's got my back, right? lol They're blowing smoke up our @sses. There isn't that much of an advantage to something that bends light rays to appear invisible. I don't think the US govn't will put much money into this project. The item will still leave a heat signature( vehicle, soldier, ship, airplane). It's a cool idea, but doesn't have much of a practical purpose in the military. Our weapons are becoming more precise every day affording much more lethal firepower to the ground soldier. We already have a 50cal shoulder fired rifle that is accurate and maintains enough power to penetrate bunker walls from over a mile away( the Barrett 50 cal). This is a semi auto sniper rifle capable of sending rounds downrange at a rate of a 10 shot clip in less than 10 seconds. Compare that to the old sniper rifle that was a manual load each time you shot. Canadian special forces took out enemy forces in Iraq from over 3000 meters away. The bullet travels 3 times faster than sound. Your dead before you hear the shot. I'll take that gun please. You're invisible? Great, I have infrared. You're dead. We also have cool little robots that are armed and remotely driven as fast as a man can run. We have the Predator spy plane now armed with missiles. Invisibility of this sort I think is not all that valuable aside from possibly cloaking parked, cooled vehicles and weapons/ supplies cache's. Now it's time for someone to tell me i'm retarded and it's the best invention ever.
