I RECENTLY BOUGHT 2 12" SUBS (HAVNT CAME IN THE MAIL YET AND ITS BEEN 3 WEEKS)

and a 2400 watt amp

THE SUBS ARE RATED AT 1000 watts a piece and the amp is 1200X2

i heard if you over power them then its better but is RMS better or MAX power+++ better for them

....NOT GOING TO INSTALL UNTILL I GET MY NEW GALANT BUT I MIGHT SELL THEM TO SOMEONE IN TOWN (WICHITA, KS)..and the AMP

RMS power is the minimum the speaker shoule have, max, well, no explanation needed... I have 2 12" Clif Design subs, 300 RMS, 600 max, but my amp can push max with it's RMS power. As long as you can meet the minimum requirements for the subs, and still have some wattage, it should work well. But sound is all in the design of the box.... Ported for SPL, and sealed for SQ. As far as I am concerned, Bandpass blows subs. Just my 0.02

I've overpowered subs and blown the living **** out of them. RMS is what your subs can handle continuously, MAX is what they can handle for a few seconds (maybe longer, if youre lucky). You definitely dont want to feed 1000rms subs 1200 watts a piece. But the question is, is that your amps max power or the rms power? I know of true 1000 watt amps and they cost 1 grand or more (JL 1000/1 comes to mind), yet all of these little 200-300 watts say in big letters 900 or 1000 watts, which really, they're never gonna push that. Always look at the RMS and set things up from there, I dont even pay attention to the max readings, and some brands like JL dont even publish them. My last system was 2 Audiobahn high excursion 12's (600 watt RMS) running off of a JL 500/1. They were only getting 250 watts a piece and they pounded so hard I couldnt think straight. Before that I had them running of the JL 250/1, and they hit so hard it knocked out both of my tailights (I have one stuck in there with velcro). So basically, my opinion is that you should never over power a sub, if anything, under power it. A long time ago I had some kickers rated at 150 rms, and they blew to hell at (you guessed it) 150 a piece. It's a real trip trying to find that perfect system, I almost had it but i finally gave up (i was tired of pissing everyone off) and sold everything.
