soo many questions.. hope you guys can help me out.

ok.. i had a 98' gs which was garbage and i eventually sold to my gf for $1.. literally.

i now have 98' gsx with big dreams for it, but no knowledge on where to begin.. it runs good.. but a few things im concerned about. first gear rpms seem really high for such a low speed.. i shift at like 4500 but im only going like 20-25 mph.. (is this normal?) idk remember im pretty stupid when it comes to cars.. Another thing is sometimes ill be driving... shifting at usually like 4000-4600... but with accelerator down and rpms high.. my turbo starts to sputter. and during this "sputter" the car isnt picking up any speed and i have to either shift or let off the gas to stop it.. its pretty fricken annoying. turbo lag?? i have no idea? help me out.

its sputtering because your shifting it early if your raceing it take it to 7k otherwise your gonna lose. the speeds at your shifting rpms are normal. Does the car have any mods at all? check out the top of the eclipse section there is a write up on mods for the 2G turbo

it came with a new exhaust and air filter... it sputters when picking up speed in each gear. its not because im shifting too early, it has started sputtering at like 5000. my car also tends to backfire sometimes when shifting from like 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. it seeems to me thats its the turbo messing up..

Sounds like a misfire. Backfire = fuel igniting in the exhaust. Check your spark there could be a bad wire of plug or something like that.

Its not the turbo, it is either a miss fire by bad plugs and wires or a boost leak causeing the car to go rich somewhere.

i didnt mean i thought the backfiring was from the turbo.. even though i made it sound like that.. sry.

hey also i had already bought a body kit for my previous gs but never ended up putting it on because i knew i was just going to sell it so.. how much you think it would be to have it installed, sanded, bondo'd, and painted?

also how big of a job is it to install a front mount intercooler if i bought one?.. price?.. need for one?

should i bother with a wastegate? boost controller? what are the most important things i should purchase b4 anything else?

how about that magnus intake manifold, suppost to add like 40 hp? that makes me pretty happy if its true..

should i buy a new bov?

sry for so many questions.. just want to learn more

Boost controller with a boost guage is the best way to get some extra power, dont bother with the intake manifold. And the body kit could cost some money depending on the fit. I would guess somewhere from 2-4k. It also depends on the shop. Some places are cheaper. But like i said because its probably fiber glass, its not gonna fit perfect. Custom work will be necessary.

And for the sputtering, its definetly the spark plugs and wires. When i bought mine i had the same problem. Change both of them and it should be fine.

There is many theorys on what the stock boost is. Some say its 8 and some say its 11-12. You will only really know when you put a boost guage on. Well... you cant really turn it up enough to hurt the turbo on the stock fuel system. On your stock fuel system you can run 15-16psi without hitting fuel cut.

Please dont put a bodykit on the car. You have a gorgeous front bumper that i wouldnt mind having for myself! I am 100% certain you will hate the bodykit because of these reasons. 1) hitting the ground. 2) Fiberglass cracking at high speeds. 3) Road stones causing spiral cracks. Trust me... its a bitch. If you still want the bodykit PLEASE send me your bumpers!
