Yay or Nay...

I don't like them. As an adult, who can drink, smoke, join the armed forces, and do anything else that could end my life prematurely, I don't feel that seatbelt laws should be in place or enforced. It is another reason to pull people over and gleen "taxes" from them. I think it's bullshit. The government shouldn't be so selective about protecting me from myself...

Kids on the other hand, should be made to wear them at all times, use appropriate car seats, etc., but adults should have the choice.

note: I always wear a seatbelt and so do all the passengers in my car...

I think it should be a choice.. because the only person it will kill is yourself.. You'd have to be an idiot not to wear a seat belt...and if that's your choice (to be an idiot and die), then so be it.

This is true.. but you also have to take into consideration that some of your friends and family are probably of the "stupid gene" and may die because they weren't wearing a seat belt.. wouldn't you want the law to MAKE them wear one so they don't die? .. I know I would have liked my friend to be enforced of this law..

Hard to think about.

Yes and No, while I would hate to lose a friend/family member for not wearing a seatbelt...I still don't believe it should be law...what about losing a family member to euphesyma, liver disease, heart attack (fast food), all perfectly legal...but just as deadly.

Take for instance, in Ks., it is against the law to not wear a seatbelt...but it is not required by law to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle...

I work at a personal injury law firm, and I see people in here all the time with sometimes bad, sometimes horrific injures, freaking out b/c can't get as much money as they could because they didn't wear the seat belt. Yeah, you could die if you don't wear your seatbelt. what no one thinks about is what happens when you live through the accident and the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt.

The government is supposed to oversee it's people and ensure safety, personally I don't much care whether it is a law or not, it's common sense. As for what the government chooses to "protect us" from, they are likely working with the simple solutions. You are always free to make your own decisions, but there are always consequences for those that show impaired judgement...whether it be fines, injury, or death is all up to the individual.

I am totally against laws telling me I have to wear my seat belt. If we let the government dictate this, what will the next law to protect us from ourselves be? Will they tell us we can't eat a rare steak?

And with that said, I always wear my seat belt and I encourage everyone to do so.

Hehe, if I get in a wreck and it's my choice to be fined over dying, I'm going to choose dying. lmao, I know that's not what you meant, but the wording was funny to me
