Hi All,

Hope someone can help me out, I have a 93 Lancer (1.5 Carb Model). I get a squeel - almost like a slipping fan belt noise - when I lift the clutch. Description as follows:

* Only really happens the first time the clutch is engaged after starting the engine from cold.

* Is less noticable if engine is rev'd higher during clutch engagement.

* Is worse the more people are in the car and can then sometimes happen at other times.

Any ideas?? Could it be an adjustment thing? Lubrication needed somewhere? The clutch never slips or gives any other trouble and its been like this for about a year (since I bought the car).

Cheers!! (Hopefully....)

Sounds like you may have a leak in the fluid? Have you checked your clutch fluid lately? That kinda sounds like you have no pressure until the car is running a little bit but then I don't know if these run off vac like the brakes do. Check those type things see if you find something there...

im willing to bet its not the actual clutch. What i do when i get a squeek is i go under the hood with a can of WD40 and try and locate the squeel... and when i find it i spray it... if it goes away then i know what it is.... if its not that then keep lookin

its your throw out bearing. i had a rx-7 that did that every time i started it until the tranny syncros went out on me. it should be ok for a while but i would get it fixed.

You dont wanna spray any kinda lube on brakes or clutches. What i was saying is that its not the cluth. In other words when you find out what it is then its probly a belt or pulley... in that case you can spray it with a kind of oil to get rid of it.

Good replies guys - thanks.
Could someone please clarify what a throw-out bearing is please?
Is that the clutch thrust bearing? Or something different?

Thanks!

your throwout bearing is somewhat attached to your fork which releases the pressure from your pressure plate. its round and kinda bulky and is around the external part of your transmission shaft. you could probably pick one up for maybe $20 at a auto zone.
