Why is my engine shutting off on me? Someone help me. - 6/27/2006 1:52:00 AM    navysailor551   Posts: 15 Score: 0 Joined: 4/28/2006 Status: offline I have a 2001 eclipse gs. i have never had any problems with it until last night. i am driving down the highway and when i get off the exit ramp i hit a light and then my engine just shut off on me. It is idoling at about 700rpms which is when i start it. After about 15 seconds it shuts off on me. Can anybody tell me whats wrong with that? Post #: 1

You can just go to some car shop like advance auto parts or something and they can test your battery and the alterator to see if thats the problem. (in reply to TheEngineer) Post #: 5

Does it do this on warmup? If so you may have the idle set too low. It should run at around 1500 RPM when you first start the car until warm. Then it should drop to approximately 700 RPM.
