I have a 2002 Montero Sport XLS with AWD. I am planning to change all the fluids in the very near futre. I was wondering:

What everyone opinions on synthetics are?

What weights of fluids should I use for what?

Anything I can do to improve fuel mileage?

ATF - Use Mitsu/Hyudai/Kia SPIII fluid only.
Differentials - Most any GL-5 fluid will do. Synthetics are good. I like Redline.
Transfer Case - Use a GL-4 fluid for manual transmissions. These are difficult to find. Redline makes a good one.
Engine oil - Most all API SM oils are great. Synthetic oils will allow you to extend your drain interval a bit.
Oil Filters - OEM are good. Purolature Pure One are great filters and not too expensive. Fram are overpriced. Mobil 1, K&N are great filters, but expensive.

IMHO

Let me reiterate...

Or, if you want, use something else like Mobil 1 and tell us your sad story about how your tranny had a coronary a few hundred/thousand miles later.
