I honestly cant believe people are asking if they can safely run the car past its redline.

why not ask if its alright to bash the car into a brick wall? the answer is obvious.

hey thats not nice. They dont know, thats why they were asking.

Although he has a point it was not nessecary. Lets conclude it... unless you have a built engine you should not bounce off the rev limiter.

on the 2G rs, the rev limit is 6600 rpm. the red line is 6500 rpm. as far as i can tell in the heads, the valves springs are self-adjusting to a point. so a couple of rev limits wont destroy it. however... repeated abuse of the engine will lead to catastrophic failure of the retainers for the valves themselves, a blown head gasket and possibly some burned rings for starters... something serious would include a cracked block, scorched cyllinders, and of course ruptured valve seals and pistons :) to repair all of the things i just listed would run "me" about 900 bucks. but for the everyday joe shmoe we're talkin around 1400 for the motor and installation costs.

so you could always do yourselves a favor... read the signs at the video store...
BE KIND AND REWIND.

rewind indicates that you should lower your RPMS before your limiter does.

just shift riiiight before it and youl be fine...personally... i love the sound of engines bouncing off the rev limiter.. i would build a race motor to handle it and do it all the time

LOL!!! When you build that engine, your making me a sound clip!
haha
