My 2003 lancer, (non evo or OZ), just hit 27,000 miles. The minute that it hit the 27,000 mile mark, the service enginge soon light turned on. I know that on my father's chevy s10, when it hit 26,000 miles, the service engine soon light came on because of a factory preset, and not because of any actual problems. I was wondering if this is the same thing that just happened to my car, or if it is just coincidence that the light came on at that exact number. I have taken extremely good care of the car, it is not idling hard or anything like that... Thanks :)

Another thing you can do.......if you have an autozone in your town, they can hook it up to an engine diagnostic for free, it doesnt tell you exactly exactly whats wrong, but it will give you a pretty good idea of what is wrong, they can also reset your cpu so the damn light will go off....lol..........but if youre lazy, simply unplug your battery for 10 minutes, that re-sets your computer too.
