Hey everyone!! I have my spyder since 2000 [it's a 2001].
I have this airbag problem. They fixed it once but that didn't last long. Not sure what's wrong with it, but the airbag light keeps coming on. It's not under warranty anymore, so I am hoping that there is a recall. Than, I really don't know how recalls work. Are they good after the warranty is over?

Anybody else had a airbag problem? I did a search and found a couple people that had some issue and the airbag actually deployed. Now that would scare the crap out of me.
Thanks everyone :)

you have seat airbags? If so, they (or one of them) are probably the culprit.
there are no recalls on any airbags on any U.S mitsu. But if it is indeed the seat airbag, I believe (but not known for sure) that they're warranted for 8/80.

YES!!! I DO have seat airbags!!
Weird, it seams that sometimes, during colder temps the light stays off for a while. after the car gets hot they come on. That only happens in winter time though. During summer time they are on all the time. the temp relation could be me imagining it too though.

I guess it's time to call mitsubishi huh. Thanks much everyone!
I hope that's it. It's a pain to look at this light every day.

I did try to turn of the battery for much longer then an hour. No luck. Would've been nice.

There is a side airbag TSB involving the replacement of either one or both of the side airbags. It's been a while since i worked for Mitsubishi, so i don't have anymore information for you. The SRS does have it's own warranty limitations that is longer than that of the powertrain. Call your local dealership a call. If you are out of the warranty period by mileage, try contacting the local Mitsu DPSM and see if they can goodwill it for you.

yes, there is a bulletin.

if in fact you have a seat bag failure, it turns out to be covered 6/60. if you give me your email, i can get you the TSB even though its really not going to be that useful to you.

really, though, its not THAT expensive to fix even if its out of your own pocket.

What does the airbag light have to do with the fuel pump relay?

The airbag system is on its own system they wouldn't run something else with it. Its a serious deal if something goes wrong with airbags. They dont take it lightly. I think in almost every case when the light comes on it means somewhere the computer isnt picking up that they are there. The computer sends a very small small current through them to assure that they are there and connection is made. Anything related to airbags is in yellow wires and they all are suppose to have a locking clip in them so that they can not come disconnect unless you remove the lock. It is possible that if they were working on it they forgot that and the connection is being lost which would trigger the light to come on.

As far as deploying, there are a bunch of things that have to happen in the same time to cause them to deploy. One of the crash sensors has to complete the circuit at the exact same time as well as another sensor(cant remember the name at the moment) which is located under the center counsel. The only other thing that could do it is somehow it got a surge of electricity somehow, which i think is very unlikely. there is a chance these people could have been poking around wires with a DVOM which could easy cause them to deploy. I went to college for autobody so i've dealt with airbag systems quite a bit and they are a lil intimidating to work on at first.

I think if i were you i would just take it in somewhere and let someoen else deal with.
