the lifters on my 99 gs are making a tapping noise. I dont want to spend the money right now to get them fixed,but if its going to hurt my car then i will get it taken care of asap.

Nah its nothing to be worried about. My engine makes it sometimes when its cold for like 5 seconds on start up. Its all personal preference... if it really does begin to anoy you then you can take the option of replacing them with 3g lifters or just an exact replacement. Although with the 3g lifters you have a much less chance of it happening again. With the 2g lifters it could come back the same way.

There are many things you can do to rectify the problem. One being change them, two you can change your oil if you havnt already, three you can try an oil additive to get rid of the noise.

One month ago i was in you position and i was faced with either live with it, replace them, or try an additive. I figured i might as well try the cheaper alternative before the more expensive one so i tried an oil additive. It does take time to start working. Maybe 300 miles.... but it did work for me.

maybe make sure u have enough oil in ur engine too, thats what my problem was

ya i got that same ticking lifter problem. im not sure of an easier way to fix it other than replacing it, but i tried that oil thickening crap, cant remember which one, but it comes out like oney out of the bottle. everyone i know that tried it said it worked great. i'm the exception. i think it ticks worse now. and yes i have enough oil mirage... any suggestions anyone?

Change your oil and run the additive with the new oil. Worked for me after 300 miles

thats what i did. i changed my oil and added 1 quart of the stuff with the 3.5 quarts oil. no luck yet
