Hi All I got a 2001 montero(triptronic transmission). when I start the vehicle in the mornings the forward gears wont engage till the engine heat is significantly high. So normally I have to switch on the vehicle and stay about 30 mintues before going any where . any thoughts on whats wrong with this. Thanks Mucolk

While checking the level also check how it looks. If you put a dime sized drop on your hand, it should be fairly clear not murky/cloudy. If it is murky don't just add fluid, also have it flushed. Alternately, the tranny may need rebuilding but mitsu auto trannys are pretty rock solid if you take care of them. I frequently hear of them lasting 200k+ miles w/out any rebuilds, just fluid changes.
