EMonz57 -> RE: just got an 05 evo, got questions..... (8/29/2006 9:02:35 AM)

or do what I did just keep all the stock parts and be ready to put them back on if anything major breaks. so only evidence on my car would be that the bolts and screw would appear to be abused from turning and the ECU harness has a splice in it but I dont know how lazy they would be to look at the ecu harness

its quite easy to tell for any tech thats not a moron when thats been done.
just FYI.

You give majority of the techs too much credit. This isn't to insult techs but they just attempt to fix the problem with the car and return it to the customer.

as I said already... other than some bolts and the ECU harness they wont tell to easy. bolts are pretty easy to see if they have been turned or not. I know techs for dealers( most from toyota) and marjority of them are my age and younger im sure they would not be to picky

true, most techs are idiots.
but most owners that try to get away with this kinda shenanigans arent all that bright, either. Its really very, very easy to tell when a car has been tampered with... whether its from parts missing, moved, corrosion free, marked bolts, moved harnesses, etc.etc.

but its not just a techs job to fix the car and give it back to the customer. its also his responability to have business ethics, morality, and honesty, as well as social responsability. I dont take it lightly when customers come in with cat. converters removed, the entire fuel system tampered with, and pollutants pouring out of their tailpipes. I have no pity for people like that.

there are worse things to worry about in the world polution wise and otherwise than a car with no CAT or emmsions control[8|]

you can have no pitty on me I have no cat, and I tuned my EVO which actually saved me gas milage I get 70-100 miles to a tank now and still runs very safe AFRs lol

I wouldn't have any pity on these people either, if they're caught then it's their own fault. All I'm stating is that majority of the time they aren't caught or it's not big enough of a deal for them to care.

Wow this is the first time i read this for some reason. I always love a good argument. Manybrews, so you are saying that if someone broke a t-case on it and then had mods like emonz has (mostly bolt on), put it all back to stock and brought it in. The mechanic would look everywhere trying to find modifications on it, or any trace of it. Cuz personally i think all i would do is the usual, look at the exhaust to make sure there is a cat and then look in the engine bay. If everything apears stock then i wouldnt look any further for "traces of tampering"

I cannot believe that anyone exists today on our planet and still thinks that this type of thinking is okay. Apparently you've never been to a city with more than 2000 people. Ever been to L.A? any basin town? most major cities are not healthy to breath the air in. Better yet, try a country where there are no clean air standards. gross.
you think your car is clean? its not. all those devices were installed because the evo is a dirty car to begin with.
Also, it has been proven time and time again by every manufacturer on the planet that you can go fast without polluting. I have never understood why the first thing people do to "mod" their cars is remove the emission equipment.
you can get plenty of power without that.

yeah, Im sure its clean as a whistle. Tell you what, try running an IM240 test. Then you can tell me to shut my yap.
until then I will disagree strongly with many of the modifications people do which Im allowed to do.
