Hi all

I have a 98 Galant Viento 2.4GDI. I just had to replace the Harmonic Balancer the other day because the original one tore itself apart. From what I hear it isn't too common. Keeping in mind the car has only done 77000 km. Has anyone else had to replace one of these? just out of curiosity.

Cheers.

I just had my replaced two weeks ago; it went right in front of my house and the car had to be towed. '98 Galant LS with 89K miles

I guess it is a comom failure

It is a common failure. I work in the parts dept at a dealer and sell at least 1 a month.

had my '94 galant ES 4 cyknder changed at 110,000 miles. thought the motor mounts gave way at first shifting the eninge so that i didn't have the clearance against the fender to slip in a new belt

I brought my '00 galant 94K miles to my mechanic today for a timing belt replacement. He found the harmonic balancer seriously rusted and should be replaced at an extra $400 parts+labor.
I searched on the web and apparently Mitsubishis have relatively unreliable harmonic balancers.
