Fuel injector replacement

jimhood82 -> Fuel injector replacement (9/8/2006 11:33:48 AM)

So, as mentioned in my new arrivals page, I have some simple (i hope) questions to ask.

First off, my dealership tells me that I need to replace my injectors. - Thats fine, I just need to know what all that involves (more like is it a pain in the ars, and are there any seals that I need to pay special attention to). Also, do after market infectors work well, or should I go to my dealer to order the parts?

Thanks

what is wrong with the car that led them to believe you need them in the first place. Any check engine lights? What kinda car do you have

I have a 2001 galant, I do have a check engine light (advanced auto came back with cylinder 3 misfire), it has a rough idle, and hesitates...

spark plugs and wires might do the trick.

Both were replaced about 2 weeks ago with OEM parts...

coil packs? Any smoke that might point to head gasket? sorry for doubting it but its just weird to have a single injector be bad like that. And if you do need to replace them. I dont think it would be all that difficult. Getting to them might be a bit of a pain cuz i think your gonna need to remove the fuel rail and i dont know exactly how hard that is to get to on your car

jimhood82 -> RE: Fuel injector replacement (9/11/2006 3:14:06 PM)

well, the coil packs dont seem to be a problem as it is only missing on cyl 3, not 1 and 3.... though my thoughts could be wrong on that one. Also, I was told by the dealer that it was a dirty or possibly faulty injector... I have tried running things through the system to clean it (STP, Gumout (or what ever its called), and Lucas) They all seem to fix the problem for a short while, but when they are gone the engine runs rough again. I am thinking about replacing all the injectors just to make sure that problem is cleared up.

As to the other things, engine smoke: I did not notice any, though I might add that the Valve cover gasket was just changed... (there was some proior to that)

And the fuel rail seems easy to get too, or at least its easy to see, and does not look particularly dififcult..... though I am probably wrong on that one.

if it seems easy to get to then i dont think the replacement will be all that hard to do. I guess they are correct in there diagnostic then. It all seems to point toward an injector. So what kinda car do you have anyway?

jimhood82 -> RE: Fuel injector replacement (9/12/2006 11:03:28 AM)

well, it is a 2001 Mits. Galant ES - 2.4 I4 (I am not sure of engine codes quite yet, so I will refrain from such things). The car was purchased at a local salvage yard as it was a theft recovered vehicle. It has 95K Miles on it, and a very nice interior now (all of it was slashed and therefore replaced) the car ran me 2,900 and the parts to fix it up 850 (usd).... so ya anyhow, this is to be my project car.....

just FYI the engine code is 4g64
