I've heard alot about being careful when buying the '97 GST's with the crankwalk and all, what about the '98's? Is there anything better or more refined? or are all 2nd G's the same as far as problems go? I'm looking at a '98 GST spyder with 140k miles. It's super clean and looks well taken care of though.

Look for the early 2nd gens, 95 or 96. It's the least common in 95, and check to see what clutches they have used, stay away from cars that haved used heavy clutches.

yea, its the worst in 97 and 98, even the gs has a problem, i know, i had that problem and it blew up my motor. 95 and 96 seem to be the ones that dont have this problem, and late 99.

I own a 97 gst and I have never had any kind of problems, and I am pushing 17 pounds of boost. I love the later 2nd gens, and I have heard that the 95, 96's have loots of problems with the engine!

the 95-96s are the ones that usually get canrwalk.. in 97-99 thats when the smaller changes start happeneing to the DSMs.. they are more reliable inthe newer DSMs.. as for me ive been fortunate.. 136+++ miles and 15-23psi later.. still no problems..
