I recently went to the WCNC for 3000GT's and Stealths. Jenna, in her 1997 VR-4 turned mid 12's @ 109 mph. Pretty darn good. I am sure that with the right stuff, you can get into the 11's @ about 115. Top speed for these cars runs around 175 (156 for 5 gear trannies).

3/s=3000gt/stealth both were built on the same chassis, same motor, same suspension, just minor body differences.

I dunno about the Evo being faster than the 97 VR4. Consistently put down 4.8's to 60 and low 13's in the quarter completely stock. But yes the 6g72TT is the best engine that mistu built. I mean the first gens came with the 9b turbo's tuned to a measly 9psi (good for 300hp and 300lb/ft torque at engine) while the 2nd gens came tuned to 11psi(320hp/315torque). Just for your info...the 9b's were really small turbo's but can be turned up to 15 psi on completely stock internals(put u past the 360 mark in both categories) with a simple manual or electronic boost controller(manual=$50-80, electronic=$200+). I am going to be doing a complete 6G72TT swap in my 95 FWD Base(3250lbs). Once I do suspension mods and get that LSD from either quaife or Kormex to help get the power to the road. I should be puttin down some pretty sick numbers.

Well, not to nit pick but, stock for stock, the EVO9 MR is .2-.3 seconds faster than the 95-97 VR4.
- 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR 4.5 13.3 (MT Dec '05)
- 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 5.4 13.5
- 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 4.8 13.6
As shown in this site (granted it's only one site), other's may reflect the same.. http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html
so, I agree with David.
As for the 6g72 being the best Mitsu motor? I can't agree with that. After all, the EVO9 uses a single turbo 4 cylinder motor that will give the VR4's V6 TWIN turbo a run for the money...stock for stock. So, you see why I couldn't agree with that motor being the best Mitsu motor. Let's not go into reliability either, because stock for stock both will be reliable. It's not until the mods start that ANY motor will become less reliable.

IMO, both cars are very nice cars. I'm a CAR ENTHUSIAST, which means I like all sorts of cars with all sorts of motors and whatnots, for both stock look and stock motor. Stock is a good starting point.
"The BEST" is relative. To me, my car is the best...that's obvisouly not true, but it's relative

Well I understand where you are coming from SilverCoupe97 but the Evo's usually don't put down much lower than 5.1's I have seen that site before. The thing is that the single turbo on the Evo is alot bigger than those 9b's that come on the VR4. Also You can run just as high numbers with a single turbo as with a Twin Turbo set up. All that changes is the size of the turbo's, spool up time etc. With a V6 it makes more sense to run a twin turbo set up due to the fact that half of the pistons are on the other side of the engine. Inline six can be run with a single pretty easy just like an inline 4. The turbo on the Evo is quite impressive but the VR4 has way more potential for gains than an Evo due the the engine displacement. The larger the engine, then the larger the turbo that can be run on it with good spool up times. They have 950AWHP(Over 1100HP at the engine) VR4's being videotaped at the dyno and the most powerful evo I've seen was somewhere in the 550AWHP range.

I see what you're saying Mr.3k. I do agree about the motor and what you're saying about displacement and how a larger motor can have an advantage...but...there's also 4g63 equiped 1G Talons/Eclipses putting down more than 1000hp with 1 less liter and cutting mid 7's. Bushur even has a streetable EVO in the 9's that he drives to work daily. The turbo in this sense is the replacement for displacement.
I do agree that there is A LOT of potential in the 6g72. I've recently seen 3/s' putting down some serious Supra smackdown power!..and the Supra another twin turbo application which benefits with a larger single turbo, same with the Nissan 300Z's and even overseas with the Skyline's (the real ones and not the Skyline badged 2005+ Infinitys).
Anyway, yes, the 3Kgt has potential as any modifiable motor can have, but I don't know if I would argue motor displacement because a turbo car will replace the liter with psi to gain more HP everytime.

I'm not at all disagreeing that the 3kgt is a beast, it is and can be made that way if one desires, but...it's not, IMO, the only. And...bigger displacement isn't an end to all means
