Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. Here is my problem: Average guy putting himself though college, car starts leaking oil massively, guy tells me its gonna cost $900 to fix right after i spent $100 to fix an oil leak in a different area. its either car or rent $ for 3months, so bus for me it is. Here is what I have done so far:

Purchased and looked through Chilton's Repair Manual.
Brought it to the place the initial problem was fixed and they did a diagnostic.
The Results:

  • Front Main Seal Blown
  • Rear Main Seal Blown
  • Oil Pan Gasket Blown

and i just had the valve cover gasket fixed 92days ago. (driven <1000 miles in 3 months)

As for my experience with cars. on a scale of 1-10. I rate myself a 1. The only things I have done myself have been oil changes and tire fixes.
I was told that the easiest way to do this is to take the engine out. What tools do I need for this? When putting everything back together, how do I measure the tightness it needs to be?

FYI: I have three friends who all have different knowledges about cars: one works on his own Saturn, the other his Honda, and the other just spends money for people to work on his Pontiac for him.

thanks for the link. I checked it out. Am i being stupid, or do they not have mirage parts (i searched for "gasket 4g15")? Also a full gasket kit costs $250+, That seems like a lil much.

What kind of tools do i need to invest in? I have a good wrench set and jackstands+ramps.

so i got the oil pan gasket leak fixed. RTV=god!

some things i noticed while in there...
The Spark plugs are Oily, I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I'm sure its not good.

One of the guys at pepboys said something was wrong with the PCV Valve. what is it? what could be wrong with it? how easy to fix?

Also my
Front Main Seal, and Rear Main Seal are still apparently blown (still leaking) so I'm going to try and get an engine hoist.

Any/all comments, suggestions, criticism welcome.
