Best cams?

paintballproam -> Best cams? (11/3/2006 2:53:03 PM)

I was in auto class today and our teacher told us that a good, streetable cam with a pretty bumpy idle should have 260-270 duration, and .50 lift. Now looking at the comp cams that are comparable to the hks 272's (comp 10200's) it says it has

Intake Duration 259

Exhaust Duration 258

Intake Valve lift .411

Exhaust Valve lift .395

Now according to comp cams this is a VERY aggressive streetable cam. Now according to my teacher, this isnt that big of a cam. Now he is more used to V8's but still wouldnt like 265 duration and .5 lift be better?

I'm new to anything without a V8 but two things, is that advertised or running duration and what is the lobe seperation.  ex.  I run a comp 305H in my wifes car,  advertised dur = 305, duration @ .50" = 253, lift = 540 w/110 lobe sep angle.  This has a VERY rough idle and doesn't come on untill about 3200 rpm's.  Big is relative but I'm pretty sure that .50" lift on a 2 ltr would be freekin huge, more top end road racing type power.  Depends on how much you want to build the rest of the mototr....lol
