Thats actually the common problem on the 3g's. I dont think they are bolts that are originally there. I think they were rivets or something like that, and they always break off.

didnt I PM you and tell you to look to see if those were missing..... Cause I know this is a common issue on the 3Gs and will cause exactly what your discibing.

UPDATE:

it was the ram air sucking to the bottom of the hood, pulled it off and ran great. Injen ram air in the mail as we speak!
