The bad news is, instead of spending money, you'll be spending time. Chrysler made a ton of 2.4liter 420a engines, they're all in dodge caravan, a few cloud cars, and you may notice it's in the neon srt-4 now. You can go to just about any junk yard and find a dodge caravan and take the block out of it with the help of some buddies. Now, you'll have to take the block out and get it to a machine shop to have it checked and cleaned up. Get some Arias pistons for the 2.4liter 420a and have the shop assemble everything for you. Then you can either have the shop install the block, or you can do it yourself. Make sure to keep the cylinder head from your car. Seeing as the engine hydrolocked, are any of the valves bent? If they are you can always upgrade to better springs and SS valves. If you get new gear in the head, the price may jump to $1000, so be aware. The most expensive thing in the swap is the shop costs. The pistons(with rings) go for about $300-$350, and the block may cost around $20-$100 depending on where you go. The reason that the block is so cheap is because there are so many of them and they are not really in demand. Now, this engine will have broad torque curve, and is capable of producing 200hp crank depending on compression ratio and cams. You can gain some extra hp by getting custom cams OR using cams from a Neon R/T or ACR. However, it won't beat a modified 300zxtt. Maybe in the 1/8 mile, but probably not the quarter. If you're wanting to take on that, you may have to tubocharge your car. You won't be a runt either, you'll be able to beat a stock eclipse gst, so you'll be in between. But if you want extreme power, count on spending about $1700 for an engine rebuild and turbo kit. Of course you can do stroker and turbo and make something similar to an SRT-4....just better looking[;)]
