i interpeted his question as he knows its a 7 bolt, but wants to know if its a 1g or a 2g 7 bolt. I think is that the 1g's had a smaller compression ratio than the 2g version. But other than that, i dont know any way of knowing which year it is

let me help everybody out - racerx55, what exactly is your question? are you looking to know which pistons to buy? or are you asking which bottom end is which and how can you tell the difference? because a 7 bolt is a 7 bolt, don't matter if it's from a 93 or a 99

i want to know what pistons to buy, its a 7 bolt, i was assuming its a 93-94 because of the 1g head, but by the looks of this engine its a n/a motor with a turbo head, paperwork on the car shows a 95 engine being put in, so it could be a 1g head on a 2g bottom correct?
i dont trust a paper to tell me what it is so, what i want to know, is by looking at the bottom end how do you tell weather its a 1g or 2g (7 bolt of course)
thanks for anyones help

as far as i know. a 7 bolt is a 7 bolt. doesn't matter if it comes off a 93 or 99. now i never thought about this until now but... i'm not sure if there is any issues with taking a 7 bolt from a NA 1g eclipse and putting a 2g head onto it...

i think the block itself it pretty much identical. I dont know of any #'s or anything that would clue you in, all i know is that the compression ratio on a 95+ should be like 8.5:1 where the 1g's where 7.8:1.

well when pricing pistons for a 7 bolt, its lists 1g 93-94, then 2g 95-99, theyre priced different so somethings gotta be different about them, maybe the difference in CR is all its is..
