hey guys...

i just bought (my first car) a 1997 Lancer CE GLi and its only a 1.5 .... i was wondering does anyone have any suggestions for increasing its overall engine power without have to put like a turbo in it.... it already came with a pod air filter but i'd lke to put some more money towards it and would prefer to work on the engine before anything else and increase its overall performance.... any suggestions are appreciated.

thanx.

is your car SOHC or DOHC? if you're running the 4g15 DOHC, you've got a lot more power potential than those of us with the SOHC. check out www.mirageforums.net, you'll find all kinds of good stuff there on how to get the most out of your engine. just do some searching before asking too many newb questions though.

sorry bout that. first thought for helping you make some power is to get a bigger exhaust (no bigger than 2.25" if your wanting to stay NA powered), CAI, header & test pipe and see how you feel after that

I have a great idea,
start with a better car.
No seriously, you are really cutting out your options when you say you dont want to turbo.
nothing, and I mean NOTHING adds power without fuss like a turbo.
If you are wanting more than maybe 12-15 hp gain from your motor, you better be spraying or boostin.
You just cant get that kinda power from these smaller motors without either adding boost, or going internal.
If you crack the motor and rebuild you are gonna spend at least twice what you would have just going with a turbo kit.
Hell, you could build your own turbo kit for $1200.00 and thats on the high side.

I guess all I am saying is you are really tying our hands to help you when you say you dont want to go forced induction
