Introduced to the market in the spring of 1991, the 1992 model of the Mitsubishi added another stellar car to its already impressive lineup. The Mitsubishi Diamante probably looked familiar to some Australians who had already known the car as the Mitsubishi Magna. In 1993 the Mitsubishi Corporation added a wagon version of the Diamante. The Diamante was originally a four door hard top, though a more formal six-light sedan and station wagon were built in Australia. In 1997 the Diamante got a makeover with the refreshed model hitting the roads in July of 1996.
In July 2004 Diamante lovers were shocked to learn that Mitsubishi was going to stop importing altogether, meaning it may stop producing the Diamante in the United States after the 2004 model. Many blamed the ceasing of production of the Diamante on the Galant since the two vehicles both were 4 cylinder models in the United States and the Galant just happened to be more popular than the Diamante. The Diamante also received a facelift in 2003 that many were not fond of, which is said to have decreased sales. Six cylinder models were available, but they were known as the Mitsubishi Verada instead of the Diamante.
