In production since 1989, the Mitsubishi Eclipse is a two-door four-seat sports coupe. The Eclipse is also available in a convertible. Interestingly, the Eclipse is only produced for the United States market where it has also been sold under the names of the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser. Mitsubishi has aligned itself with the Chrysler Corporation and allowed for the Talon and Laser to be produced. The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a favorite of young racers because the basic car is relatively cheap and the number of awesome after market parts available for them is virtually unlimited.
The Eclipse has had four generations with the first two generations sharing many parts, but the third generation was based on a new platform and most parts are incompatible with the first two generations. The fourth generation is the most recent and was made available in June of 2005. The first generation was an entry to mid-level four cylinder sports coupe. Four trim levels were available for this generation, the bottom three offered front wheel drive and the very top trim level offered all wheel drive. The top FWD and and the AWD models were equipped with awesome turbo charged engines. The base model was equipped with a 1.8 L 8 valve engine and it only got better from there!
The Eclipse underwent minor changes over the years, but it wasn't until 1996 that the look really changed and you can easily distinguish the newer models from the older ones. The body style has been updated for the 2006 model and looks more sporty and sleek than ever before.
