The Mitsubishi Motors Corporation launched the Mitsubishi Galant in 1969. The Galant is a mid-sized car that is offered as a two door or four door sedan. The Mitsubishi Galant was also sold as the Colt Galant in several markets as well as the
Dodge Colt starting in 1971. The Galant provided a great mid-sized car for families or singles with a smart style that was functional as well.
In 1970 a fastback coupe model named the Hardtop, was added to the Galant models. The Hardtop was the first mass produced passenger car without side pillars. Mitsubishi released a GTO model that same year that offered the most powerful 1.6 L 125 PS engine. The basic models offer a 1.3 or 1.5 PS four cylinder engine.
The Mitsubishi Galant has seen nine generations of this model and it's been using the popular PS platform since 2003. The Galant flaunts a unique looking front end as well as gasoline direct injection engines, making Mitsubishi the first manufacturer to commericially incorporate the gasoline direct injection or stratified charge engine. Starting in 2006 the popular Mitsubishi Galant will be exported to other areas of the world as it has a universal appeal. The Galant is a very popular car, said to have led to the end of other Mitsubishi vehicle such as the Diamanteas well as the end to other manufacturers cars.
